Again, "Trainspotting" cast and crew are all geared up to take down the world by storm with its sequel. The original casts of the first film recently attended the grand premiere of the sequel at Cineworld in Edinburgh.
The sequel was made 21 years after the groundbreaking original in 1996 that follows the life of a bunch of people who are heroin addicts. The second batch is the continuation of the life of central characters in today's time. The only twist is that they are middle aged now.
"Trainspotting 2" is also partially based on the novel "Porno" written by Irvin Welsh, whose book was earlier used to make the first part.
Oscar Award winner Danny Boyle had shown interest in making the sequel of the movie in 2009, and five years later he confirmed in a BBC radio interview that he is currently spending time with the author of the book as well as working with the creative team behind the original movie to discuss the sequel.
According to BBC, he even confessed about his fear directing the sequel of such an iconic movie because a bad sequel can drag such a great movie down. However, luckily after reading John Hodge's script, they were entirely convinced.
In the movie, Mark Renton returns to Edinburgh, and everybody is waiting for him: Spud played by Ewen Bremner, Sick Boy played by Jonny Lee Miller and Begbie played by Robert Carlyle. On his return, Ewan McGregor realizes that so much has changed and yet so much remains the same. Friendship, joy, sorrow, vengeance, hatred, love are all lined up to welcome him. The sequel is the reunion of original characters but in a surprising way.
The original movie earned huge critical acclaim and also ranked itself in the top 100 British films of all time by the British Film Institute, as per Reuters.
The trailer of the movie was released in November and is ready to hit the theaters in the UK on Jan. 27.
