The SBS Wednesday-Thursday drama "The Legend of the Blue Sea" soars high as it finished its two-month run with consistently high ratings. Hence, the lead stars Lee Min-Ho and Jun Ji-Hyun have expressed their elation over the overwhelming response of the public to their show.
Lee, who first gained widespread fame from starring in 2009's "Boys Over Flowers," said living as Heo Joon-Jae for the past five months was a memorable experience. To him, his character in the SBS drama will remain as a warm and charming friend.
"I wouldn't be here if it weren't for the fans who watch over the path of actor Lee Min Ho with warm hearts," All Kpop quoted Lee as saying before a group of local media. "I would never forget your hearts which allow me to be who I am and the support that makes me a better self."
Jun also shared his thoughts about the 20-episode drama and thanked everyone for making it a success. Despite feeling giddy, the 35-year-old veteran actress said she was able to joyfully portray her mermaid character due to everyone's support and encouragement.
"I appreciate the viewers who loved 'The Legend of the Blue Sea'," Jun said. "I think it'll be a memorable production to me, as much as it was difficult filming."
The Hallyu star goes ahead to express her gratefulness toward director Jin Hyeok, screenwriter Park Ji Eun and to the entire staff members for making such a wonderful production. She then assured her fans that she will continue to give them great movies and dramas as she has always done.
Also starring Lee Hee-Joon, Shin Won-Ho and Shin Hye-Sun, "The Legend of the Blue Sea" has managed to fare well abroad. The 22 billion won ($19 million) drama was exported to all major regions across the globe, including the Americas, Europe, and Southeast Asia, according to its production company Culture Depot, as cited by Yonhap News Agency.
However, it was not aired in mainland China due to the political dispute between the two countries over the deployment of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) missile. Still, the drama was popular in China through piracy.
