Donald Cerrone has been one of the most successful fighters in the Ultimate Fighting Championship after winning all of his four bouts in 2016. Riding on the momentum of his four-fight winning streak, the 'Cowboy' has set his eyes on Tyron Woodley and the UFC welterweight belt.
Cerrone still has to meet Jorge Masvidal at UFC on FOX 23 on Saturday at the Pepsi Arena but he is looking ahead of a possible fight against the reigning welterweight champ, noting that defeating Masvidal that might propel him to a fight against Woodley was his plan in the first place, Daily Star UK reported.
The Cowboy, who submitted Alex Oliveira, pulled off two consecutive technical knockout wins against Patrick Cote and Rick Story and knocked out Matt Brown, believes he is better than his next opponent in every aspect and wants Woodley as his next opponent. Cerrone acknowledged Masvidal as a "good" wrestler, striker and boxer but said he is not "great at anything."
At 33 years old, Cerrone has the most appearance in the UFC and WEC combined history with 34 fights as he faces Masvidal, MMA Junkie reported. Also, Cerrone's 34th appearance in the UFC, WEC, PRIDE and Strikeforce combined ranks fourth most, just behind legends Wanderlei Silva and Dan Henderson's 40 appearances apiece and Mirko Filipovic' 35.
Cerrone is also one of the winningest fighters in UFC history has he is tied at second place with George St. Pierre with 19 Octagon wins. If he ever defeats Masvidal, he would tie Michael Bisping as the winningest man in the UFC with 20 victories.
Aside from that, Cerrone, who won all of his last four fights via stoppage, tied the longest stoppage streak among active fighters in the mixed martial arts promotion. The Albuquerque, New Mexico native has not lost a fight since he moved to the welterweight division and has won 12 of his last 13 bouts.
