Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger made headlines recently because of his alleged retirement plans. “Big Ben” allowed his emotions to get the better of him following his team’s loss to the New England Patriots for the NFL AFC Championship.
The Steelers made it deep into the NFL playoffs and Roehlisberg and company were looking to go all the way. Facing a strong team in the Tom Brady-led Patriots was tough to overcome and the final score (36-17), is proof of such.
The Steelers may have come short this season but their performance this NFL season speaks well on the future of the team. Compared to other teams, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin has the proper essentials to return stronger next season. Leading the list is Roethlisberger who is expected to revert to his normal self, CBS reported.
Despite Roethlisberger’s claim of assessing his future which included possibly walking away from football, Tomlin was hardly alarmed. He understands the emotional aspect that took its toll on the 35-year-old veteran but expects everything to calm down soon in another report from CBS.
At 35, Roethlisberger is in the twilight of his career. He has two years left on his contract and critics believe that the veteran quarterback will finish it out and then ponder on what to do next. Looking ahead, the Steelers look formidable and this is something that Roethlisberger is expected to realize at some point.
All that starts when the Steelers start preparations for the 2017-18 NFL season which will include looking back at their deficiencies. That included tension from within the team particularly in the area of offense and play-calling. The year saw a lot of anxious moment, mostly affecting the offensive side.
With the 2016-17 NFL season over for the Steelers, some time off and figuring out the loopholes in their plays should keep Tomlin, Roethlisberger and the rest busy at training camp. It may practically be the same team for Pittsburgh, a positive note since chemistry issues will not add to their concerns at least for next season.
