Despite being the Ultimate Fighting Championship's biggest star, lightweight champion Conor McGregor has been vocal in criticizing the mixed martial arts promotion that made him a millionaire. However, UFC president Dana White has warned the Irish fighter that if he continues in berating the UFC, "it will be an epic fall" for him.
It can be remembered that McGregor, after his UFC 205 win against Eddie Alvarez in November 2016 to become the only fighter in history to hold two belts simultaneously, called out the UFC to give him a part of the ownership. Recently, in his Instagram post, the 28-year-old said, "F*** the UFC," and White is apparently not pleased, SB Nation's MMA Mania reported.
In UFC on FOX 23's post-fight press conference, White told the media that he deeply respects McGregor as a person and for what he has done for the UFC but immediately took on a different route, saying that if McGregor continues badmouthing the company, it will result in his fall.
McGregor is currently UFC's biggest cash cow, raking in 5.75 million in pay per view buys in his last four fights, with the biggest coming from his UFC 202 rematch against Nate Diaz where he brought in more than 1.6 million in pay per view buys.
Despite being the highest paid athlete in the UFC, he is set to make more money as he has expressed his desire to fight undefeated boxing legend and former pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather, Rolling Stone reported.
Mayweather, who was hesitant before in coming back from his retirement, said that the McGregor fight is the only bout that will get him back to put his gloves on. McGregor, meanwhile, said he and Mayweather still have to compromise for the amount of money that will make them both happy before going to promoters and buyers of the much-awaited fight.
