Phil Spencer, the head of engineering team of Microsoft gaming console, revealed on Twitter that Xbox One may get keyboard and mouse support. Adding an official keyboard and mouse support could make the Real Time Strategy (RTS) genre more appealing.
"It won't be there at launch but this is support we'd like to add as it comes to the Xbox platform," Spencer responded to a question whether the RTS Halo Wars 2 game may not get a mouse and keyboard controls, however, the company will add the controls to the platform soon.
"I keep talking about it in the press and my platform team keeps shaking their head, because of they, truthfully in our dev kit modes now keyboard works, mouse support is a little bit further away. I say it because I know it's not years away, it's more like months away, but we don't have an exact date yet," Spencer added.
Currently, the Xbox One supports USB keyboards, however, the console does not support a keyboard and mouse control setup. It is not really an official feature yet, however, Microsoft assures its avid gamers that this kind of support on a console will be an excellent idea to transition from PC to console could also benefit from the Play Anywhere system, as published on the PC Games.
Microsoft is aiming at bringing this control scheme to Xbox One. Spencer said that the keyboard and mouse support for Xbox One is something the company has been thinking about for awhile, as noted on Gamespot.
The RTS Halo Wars is the most popular game on PC where the mouse and keyboard controls are needed to control multiple units on the battlefield. The RTS genre can resurgence on the console in the current generation, which is an open beta game. The Halo Wars 2 will be launched on Feb. 21 for Xbox One and PC.
