"Sherlock" Season 5 may still happen. According to the show's Mary Watson, played by Amanda Abbington, the actress wants to reprise her role, should there a next season.

Beware! This article contains "Sherlock" Season 4 spoilers!

The season 4 premiere of popular BBC show showed Mary die saving Sherlock (Benedict Cumberbatch) from a bullet intended for the genius detective. However, in an interview with DJ Greg James of Radio 1, the actress revealed that she may continue returning to the show, one way or another.

Abbington stated in her interview that her co-star Andrew Scott, playing the character of James Moriarty, believes that she will never leave her "Baker Street Boys." Scott pointed out how Mary's character kept showing up in the form of flashbacks, even after she died in the first episode itself. Based on this, the actress is hoping that there will be more for Mary if there is a Season 5 and beyond.

The actress went on to reveal that she "loves the fact" that her character was completely in sync with the source material and met the same catastrophic fate as her counterpart. Abbington also added that she felt like a hero, taking a bullet for Sherlock.

Meanwhile, even though "Sherlock" Season 5 remains unconfirmed, the showrunners Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat revealed in an interview with Radio Times that if there is a new season, it may take the viewers back to the beginning of the protagonists' adventures when they were younger.

According to viewers' feedback, there is still a lot that "Sherlock" needs to tackle. For starters, the reunion between Sherlock and his sister Eurus (Sian Brooke) in "The Final Problem" may have been unpleasant initially, but it did conclude with a happy ending. There are plenty of loose ends that can be explored in the upcoming seasons.

However, it looks like "Sherlock" Season 5 may not be in the hands of the production team anymore due to hectic Hollywood schedules of its lead actors, Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman (Dr. Watson). While the show's fate remains unknown for now, there is a slight possibility that the detective series may return with more action.
