Seth Rollins was once one of the most promising wrestlers to come out of the WWE's developmental system, NXT. He won multiple singles and tag team championships while feuding with some of the biggest names in the industry. However, injuries have kept him from reaching the peak of his career as a professional wrestler, and it seems that this is the case once more.
Rollins was previously out of action for around eight months after tearing his ACL, MCL, and medial meniscus while performing a high-risk maneuver at a WWE live show. He made a triumphant return from injury at the 2016 edition of the Extreme Rules pay-per-view and soon after dethroned his former comrade Roman Reigns as WWE World Heavyweight champion. Despite losing this title and missing out on the Universal championship, Rollins was set for a marquee matchup against multi-time world champion Triple H at the upcoming edition of WrestleMania after the latter cost him his spot at the Royal Rumble.
While attempting to call out his Triple H during the Jan. 30 edition of Monday Night Raw, Rollins was attacked by the debuting Samoa Joe. Unfortunately, this attack caused Rollins knee to be injured once more. He is currently being evaluated by medical personnel, but is touted to miss around eight weeks of action, Wrestle Zone reported.
The timeline for Rollins' injury means that there is a high probability that he will miss out on participating in a match at the "grandest stage of them all." The WWE's creative department has already held an emergency meeting regarding what to do in the event that there are unexpected changes on the WrestleMania 33 card. Shane McMahon is a potential replacement for Rollins as Triple H's opposition at the event.
While Rollins is expected to make a complete recovery and return to competition, the timing of his injuries means that he could miss out on participating in two straight WrestleMania events, according to the Bleacher Report. He had already spent almost a year in the sidelines waiting for this opportunity, only to be stripped of it once again by something beyond his control.
