With just two months away from its expected launch, several renders and purported features of Samsung's highly-anticipated smartphone Galaxy S8 were revealed, featuring a front panel covered with screen while other reports suggesting no sign of a front-mounted physical button. Now, new reports uncovered point to the Galaxy S8 ditching its 'edge' moniker and a fingerprint sensor located near the rear camera.
CNet Korea has learned the latest addition of features in the Galaxy S8 through the released schematics that is believed to be the Galaxy S8. Based on the information shared by a Galaxy S8 eyewitness, the Galaxy S8 smartphone will feature on-screen navigation buttons.
According to Pocket-Link, the renders further showed the fingerprint scanner sitting at the right of the rear-mounted camera. The placement of the fingerprint scanner is taken from the idea of an ordinary user's hand position while holding a smartphone. Quoting a Samsung official: "The reason why it [fingerprint scanner] is on the right rather than the rear centre is because most people hold their smartphone in their right hand and the right index finger touches this location."
Another significant feature on the upcoming Galaxy S8 is its rumored curved screens, which is now claimed to be possible. Samsung will be scrapping the 'Edge' branding on its Galaxy S8 iteration since its 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch variants will be featuring curved screens, Sam Mobile reported.
More on the physical design of the Galaxy S8 was reviewed on the leaked renders, which unveiled a USB-C port and the 3.5mm headphone jack. However, past rumors suggested that the South Korean company is apparently working on its own pair of wireless headphones.
Aside from the mentioned physical features, the Samsung Galaxy S8 features a 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch QHD display models. Its processor is rumored to sport a dedicated Snapdragon 835 mobile chipset. It will include a 4GB of RAM, coupled with 64GB internal storage with MicroSD expansion up to 256GB. The two Galaxy S8 variants will house different battery capacities: 3000mAh and 3500mAh batteries.
The smartphone will offer USB-C port, 3.5-millimeter jack, 12-megapixel rear camera and 8-megapixel front camera, both with f/1.7 aperture and software including Samsung DeX, the Bixby AI assistant and Force Touch.
The Galaxy S8 is expected to be announced on March 29 and will be released on April 21.
