Players tired of "Pokemon GO" can now play "Pokemon Cobalt and Amethyst," a fan-made game inside "Minecraft." The downloadable map includes a full single player experience that can take several hours to finish.
"Minecraft" originally started as a sandbox adventure game. However, creative players have found ways to expand what they can do inside the game. The new "Pokemon Cobalt and Amethyst" map is a proof that they can always take it a step further.
Phoenix Projects made the new "Pokemon Cobalt and Amethyst" custom "Minecraft" map since 2014 with a prototype released in 2015, Polygon has learned. The Minecraft subreddit expressed their support at the project which helped the developers continue on and release the final version this year.
There have been several fan-made Pokemon titles in the past but Nintendo has not allowed them to continue. Even the recently famous "Pokemon Uranium" was shut down by Nintendo even if all the content were original.
"Pokemon Cobalt and Amethyst" features the custom-made Suliqu region and other unofficial Pokemon for "Minecraft," Game Spot reported. The map also includes a custom soundtrack and a fully-playable trainer battles which emulate the same ones found in the mobile games.
The custom map is free to download but it does need an unmodded "Minecraft" installation for it to work properly. Everything and everyone in the game is still blocky as there is no realistic mod involved.
Besides the Pokemon battles with trainers, the game also includes Pokemon Gyms and centers. It can take up to several hours to finish the whole plot of the game just like in the original titles. Unfortunately, there is no recognizable Pokemon in the game in order for the team to avoid as much as legal problems as possible.
"Pokemon Cobalt and Amethyst" is free to download on the game's official website. "Minecraft" players should uninstall their mods first in order to install the map properly.
