Many Chinese continue to rely on traditional Chinese medicine over western medicine in seeking treatment for ailments or pain. One such celebrity is Hong Kong chef Nicholas Tse who posted on Sunday on Facebook a photo of his arms and chest with streaks of red rashes.
The rashes are evidence of toxins leaving the body of Nicholas Tse after he underwent traditional Chinese medicine treatment for chronic pains, or gua sha, Toggle reported. Because of his current condition, his doctor advised him to temporarily stay away from the kitchen.
Controversy Over TCM
Lately, the use of traditional Chinese medicine became controversial after Chinese actress Kitty Xu Ting died in September 2016 of lymphoma. She rejected chemotherapy and shared her decision to use traditional Chinese medicine with her 300,000 fans on Weibo.
He has a cooking show “Chef Nic” and shooting a new movie “Cook Up a Storm.” Nicholas Tse wrote on Facebook, “The doctor said I can’t stay in the kitchen anymore.”
Movie Premiere
According to Star2, “Cook Up a Storm” would premiere on Feb. 10. It was inspired by the chef’s cooking show and stars Nicholas Tse as himself as a cook in an ordinary Chinese street restaurant. He would battle in a culinary contest a Michelin-starred chef who trained in France. Besides the chef, other actors in the film include Jung Yong-Hwa, Tiffany Tang and Michelle Wai.
Fans believe the toxins in the chef’s body is because he is overworked due to filming and promoting his upcoming movie. But they are happy he continues to pursue cooking, the passion of Nicholas Tse.
In late January, Nicholas Tse was photographed kidding his girlfriend, pop queen Faye Wong, at the airport waiting area. The image was posted on Weibo and became viral.
