Prosecutors found out that a woman struck a seven-month-old baby many times before cutting the throat with a power saw. This woman, reportedly the grandmother of the child, is now charged with first-degree murder in the death of the baby.
Police officers said, as reported by Yahoo News, that Rose Herrera was killed by her grandmother last Monday with a speculation that the child did not stop crying.
It was revealed in the autopsy that Rose has been already dead when her throat was cut using a power saw. According to media reports, the girl was not just struck many times, but was also suffocated as reported in the ABC News. It was found on the county's medical examiner's log that there was a sock placed in the child's mouth.
The suspect Manuela Rodriguez, 52, was rushed to the hospital because of an attempted suicide, but police said that the injuries she had was not life-threatening.
There were no reports stating Rodriguez was under the influence of drugs that could be a reason of his unjustifiable acts. The neighbors could even attest that this woman has been very good in their village and so they were not expecting things to turn out that way.
Rodriguez's family was not even reported to cause any troubles in the community and were very police most often.
Maria Gentil, one of the villagers, told the media that Rodriguez would even give a glass of milk if you are asking for it.
"When my mother died, she went up and down the street asking for money for her funeral," Gentil said.
Rodriguez is now scheduled to make her appearance in the court on Wednesday, per scheduled by the State's Attorney's Office and no known attorneys appeared to comment on her case.
