Despite the decrease in production with the arrival of Kevin Durant in the Golden State Warriors, Draymond Green keeps on making the National Basketball Association fascinated with his play. The burly forward did something no one has ever did in league history by registering the first triple double while scoring fewer than 10 points.
By scoring just four points against the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday, Green looked like a nonfactor in the Warriors' offense. But those four points did not matter as he compensated his lack of scoring by pulling down 12 boards, dishing out 10 assists and swiping 10 steals to be the first player in NBA history with a triple double that does not include the point category, CBS Sports reported.
According to Green, he never really kept track of his stats with the Grizzlies not having the screen at the top of the arena that shows players' stats. The All-Star forward said that he did not really know he had that many steals until someone told him that he already recorded seven steals after half time. Green lacked just one steal to be tied with Larry Kenon and Kendall Gill as the players with most steals in an NBA game, NBA.com reported.
Green finished the game with a plus-26 points and in occasions he gets a triple double, the Warriors have gone 18-0 in the regular season. The former Michigan University star just lacked one point to record a five-by-five after swatting five shots.
The Warriors' glue guy only took six shots and never got into the free throw line but scoring 10 points would have put him along NBA greats Hakeem Olajuwon and David Robinson as the only players in league history to record a quadruple double. He is also the first player since the 1973-1974 season, the year blocks and steals became official statistics, with 10 steals and five blocks.
