Sapio is a new dating app that aims to match users according to their answers to open-ended questions. The app is similar to Tinder but with a few key differences.
Instead of relying solely on the user's pictures and bio, Sapio helps users to show off their personality through answering questions. When a user's profile is viewed, their answered questions. Another user can then see their answers to judge whether they would like to know them more or not.
Just like in Tinder, both users would have to like each other in order for them to be able to message each other. Sapio also has the ability to swipe left or right to show as a sign of interest or the opposite, Rappler has learned. There are also several filters that users can make use of to refine their search or matches even more.
Sapio also welcomes users who are already in relationships. The dating app's relationship status includes single, in a relationship, open and polyamorous. Even the preferences can be changed to finding non-binary users.
Kristin Tynski from Sapio told The Huffington Post that they wanted the app to help remove certain stigmas for sapiosexuals. She added that being a sapiosexual also means being attracted to a matching level of interests, intelligence and other factors.
"For many, defining oneself as sapiosexual has become statement against the current status quo of hookup culture and superficiality," Tynski said. Nowadays, looks are prized above all else, she said.
The more questions the user answers, the better Sapio can work to find matches. Users can also choose to see other user's answers to the questions they already answered so as not to solely rely on the app's algorithm.
Sapio is free to download for users on Android or iOS. As of this writing, the development is still addressing numerous bugs due to the sudden surge of users.
