The latest controversy has engulfed the popular anime series as Universal Society of Hinduism goes after FUNimation Entertainment of Texas and Toei Animation Company Limited of Tokyo. The group, led by Rajan Zed, is concerned about the presence of one of the eight God of Destruction which many folks related to Lord Ganesha, a Hindu deity.
"It is trivialisation of our highly revered deity and a distortion Lord Ganesha is worshiped as the God of wisdom and remover of obstacles and was invoked before the beginning of any major undertaking," Zed said in a statement.
In the statement, he mentioned that Lord Ganesha is worshiped in temples and homes and should not be portrayed as an evil character in the current "Dragon Ball Super" arc.
The group has asked the producers, Toei Animation and FUNimation Entertainment to immediately remove the character that resembles Lord Ganesha from "Dragon Ball Super."
"Hinduism is the oldest and third largest religion of the world with about one billion adherents and a rich philosophical thought. It should not be taken frivolously. Symbols of any faith, larger or smaller, should not be mishandled," Zed stated.
Zed added that distorted images of their deities will only lead to misinformation among non-Hindus regarding the religion.
It has to be noted that the Gods of Destruction in "Dragon Ball Super" are not evil. The Omni-King, Beerus and others may look evil but they are not.
