The first English trailer for the upcoming CGI film "Resident Evil: Vendetta" has been released. It will be the third CGI movie from the franchise and is set in the same universe as the video games, unlike the live-action movies starring Milla Jovovich which are not considered canon with the games.
Leon S. Kennedy returns as the main character and will be voiced once again by iconic voice actor Matthew Mercer. Leon was also the lead in the two previous CGI films, "Resident Evil: Degeneration" and "Resident Evil: Damnation."
However, Leon is not going to be alone this time around. The trailer reveals that another main character in the series, Chris Redfield, will be making an appearance as well. Rebecca Chambers, from "Resident Evil 0," is also shown as a returning lead in the film.
The trailer showcases the main villain named Glenn Arias, as well as his female assistant. Similar to the schemes of the Umbrella Corporation, Arias plans on releasing a virus onto New York City. It is mentioned that this strand is known as the "Trigger Virus."
"The Grudge" film series creator Takashi Shimizu will serve as executive producer on the film, Dual Shockers reported. The movie is directed by Takanori Tsujimoto, based on a screenplay penned by Makoto Fukami.
Just like the previous CGI films, the movie is set in between the main games. "Resident Evil: Vendetta" takes place after the events of "Resident Evil 6" but prior to the events of "Resident Evil VII: Biohazard."
"Resident Evil: Vendetta" will release in Japan on May 27. No specific launch date has yet been announced for the US but it is scheduled to premiere in Summer. While it is meant to launch on digital platforms, it will also see a limited theatrical release in North America, Game Rant reported.
