Because of the lifestyle in the modeling industry, some models end up in trouble with the law when they use drugs. In July 2016, top Chinese model Ge Huijie was arrested for narcotics use when she sought treatment for inflamed cholecyst at the Civil Aviation General Hospital in Beijing.
From Prison to Catwalk
It is the other way around for 33-year-old Jeremy Meeks who debuted on Monday as a model for designer Philipp Plein. He was discovered when his mug was posted in 2014 by the Stockton Police department on its Facebook page, but because of his handsome face, even before Meeks could serve his sentence, he got offers to model.
Meeks strutted the designs of Plein on the fifth day of the bi-annual fashion show, the New York Daily News reported. He wore a futuristic all-black outfit from pants to boots to jacket and puffer coat with fur hood.
Famous Mug Shot
He was also photographed backstage shirtless which displayed his muscular chest and tattoos, while giving a peek of his black underwear bearing the brand of Philipp Plein, Daily Mail reported. His mug shot, featuring Meek’s chiseled cheekbones and piercing blue eyes, became the former convict’s ticket to a modeling job which the 6’ 1” hunk showed at the fashion show.
Among the celebrities who watched Meeks strut on the catwalk were Madonna, Paris Hilton, Olivia Culpo, Kylie Jenner and Tyga.
He was meted in 2015 a 27-month prison sentence for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, carrying a loaded firearm in public and criminal street gang activity. After Meeks served the sentence and he was released from prison in March 2016, the White Cross Management talent agency signed him up for modeling jobs.
Jim Jordan, a modeling agent at White Cross, said that after Meeks’ debut at the New York Fashion Week, the agency got calls from the top five designers in the world to inquire about the ex-convict, The Wrap reported.
