A.J. Styles had one of the best rookie years in WWE history but he still has no clear opponent for WrestleMania 33. However, the latest WWE rumors revealed that his feud with Shane McMahon is going to start on next week's SmackDown Live.
Styles made his WWE debut in January last year but it took him a couple of months before finding his groove. After feuds with Chris Jericho and Roman Reigns, he raised his game by outlasting John Cena at SummerSlam.
"The Phenomenal One" then won the WWE championship after the brand split and carried SmackDown Live when Cena went on his hiatus. However, Styles lost the WWE title to Cena at the Royal Rumble and plans for him at WrestleMania 33 was unclear.
WWE rumors have linked him to a match against Shane-O-Mac at WrestleMania 33. Fans groaned at the rumor because they believe Styles deserve to main event this year's WrestleMania for carrying the company last year. Styles also proved last year that he is the best wrestler in the world right now.
As recapped by WWE.com, Styles did not get his one-on-one rematch for the WWE championship against Cena. Bray Wyatt is now the WWE champion and he beat both Styles and Cena in last week's SmackDown Live.
According to Cageside Seats, the unfair treatment of Styles is the WWE planting the seeds of his feud with Shane. The former WWE champ will continue complaining to the SmackDown Live general manager that is surely resulting to a match at WrestleMania 33.
The report also noted that Styles will ask for a one-on-one rematch for the WWE championship but Shane is going to make him compete in the Battle Royal to determine the new No. 1 contender. Styles could end up winning the match and give the fans a Bray Wyatt vs. Randy Orton vs. A.J. Styles main event.
However, all signs point to Shane McMahon vs. A.J. Styles at WrestleMania 33. The match has potential since Shane will do his usual daredevil stunts while Styles can have a great match with anyone on the planet.
Nevertheless, these are just WWE rumors at the moment and should be taken with a grain of salt. Tune in to next week's SmackDown Live to know what happens next. Check out the video below to watch SmackDown' main event match this week.
