Amazon renews its successful series "Goliath," with Clyde Phillips coming in as the show's new executive producer. Alongside Phillips are David Kelley, Jonathan Shapiro and Rose Fineman who remain as showrunners.
The show's renewal was not announced during its premiere season, and Amazon only confirmed the series is up for another installment four months after the first season ended. Last month, "Goliath" star Billy Bob Thornton won the Best Performance by an actor in a drama series during the Golden Globes awards night, Deadline reported.
Though a lot of positive things has been going for the series, the publication noted there exists a conflict on its creative direction and some personalities issues inside the show. Despite the issue, Amazon Head of Comedy, Drama and VR Joe Lewis assured the second season is pushing through.
"Great shows like this help elevate the art of storytelling. We can't wait to bring our customers a new season soon," Lewis confirmed during his interview with the publication. He also added that Amazon has been proud of "Goliath" especially the current award Thornton brought to the show.
Thornton takes on the role of Billy McBride, a washed up lawyer who takes on the major corporate firm he once helped establish. Other cast members include Molly Parker as Callie Senate, Sarah Wynter as Gina Larson, Olivia Thirlby as Lucky Kittride, William Hurt as Donald Cooperman, and Maria Bello as Michelle McBride.
"Goliath" was formerly known as "Trial" when it was still being commissioned for an eight-episode order on Dec. 8, 2015. The series was officially released on Oct. 13, 2016 on Amazon Video. It garnered several positive reviews and ratings, receiving 65 out of 100 from Metacritic based on 26 critics and 77 percent from Rotten Tomatoes based on 35 reviews.
Meanwhile, Phillips who will now be taking over the legal drama has previously produced the first four seasons of "Nurse Jackie." Former "Goliath" showrunner Kelley will be concentrating on producing HBO's "Big Little Lies," The Wrap reported.
As of the moment, specific information on the season two plot has not yet been released. For other details about the upcoming season of "Goliath," check out the video below.
