Many Chinese children and parents consider the pavement as a big toilet, whether the road is inside a theme park like Shanghai Disneyland or the highways of Jiangxi Province.
Shanghaiist reported that in early February, a five-year-old girl was ran over by a minibus in Jiangxi Province. According to a short CCTV footage from Ningdu County, the girl is seen walking to the roadside and the she squats on the sidewalk. While peeing, a minibus rolls over the girl who answered the call of nature on a public road, Shanghaiist reported.
Inattentive Driver or Negligent Parents?
The parents of the girl are seeking 1.2 million yuan as compensation for the lost life of the victim. They family said the driver of the minibus being inattentive was the reason why the minibus he was driving sideswiped the girl. The police took the side of the family for being negligent in his duty, but the driver blamed the parents for not supervising their daughter’s toilet activities.
However, netizens took the side of the driver for having the bad luck of hitting a young girl while she is peeing. A Weibo user pointed out that the girl squatted on a blind sport and parents should take the responsibility for their daughter’s behavior.
10 Countries Where People Practice Open Defecation
But another commenter said the practice of kids urinating on the roadside has become more common, so drivers should be more careful. The lack of toilets is the reason why young Chinese children urinate or defecate in open spaces because China is one of 10 countries where 82 percent of 1 billion people lack toilets, according to Xinhua News Agency.
The parents of the five-year-old girl must have been emboldened by the case of the 13-year-old girl who was thrown from the seat of an amusement park. Her family would receive a compensation of 870,000 yuan for the girl’s death from the park.
