Nam Joo Hyuk, 22, wants an image makeover. Known for his lighthearted roles in various television dramas, it will be really hard for anyone to believe that the model-turned-actor does not like his innocent look at all.
On Feb. 20, Monday, Korean fashion magazine Elle released Nam's recent pictorial for its March issue. Unlike the bright and fresh image he cultivated in MBC's "Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo," the Hallyu star exuded a dark and decadent atmosphere.
In the accompanying interview with the magazine, as cited by Soompi, Nam revealed he wants to show an entirely different image in his future projects. While he wanted to maintain the cute aspect, he also wants to show a more virile and mature image.
"I know that my looks lean towards a more innocent vibe so, in the future, I'd like to increase my mature and masculine charm," Nam said. He added there are many genres and roles he wants to try out in the future.
Nam, who made his acting debut in the 2014 tvN drama "The Idle Mermaid," then looks back on his meteoric rise in the entertainment industry. While he never thought he would reach this far in his career, the Hallyu star is thankful for the fans' unwavering love and continuous support.
"Even up until just two years ago, I was working as a model and I never imagined I would be where I am now," Nam added. " I want to show everyone who I am and I think that, right now, the best way to do that is through acting."
Nam then assured his fans that he will continue to give them good dramas as he has always done. Currently, he is in negotiations to star opposite Shin Se-Kyung in tvN's "Bride of the Water God," according to Korean newsoutlet TV Report.
If Nam accepts the offer, he will play a temperamental deity, Ha Baek, who takes the most delightful woman as his bride in exchange of rain. Shin, on the other hand, will transform into a neuropsychiatrist, So-A.
