United States Marine Dakota Meyer, who received the Medal of Honor, will be marrying Bristol Palin, daughter of GOP vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin.
The younger Palin posted on her blog that Sgt. Meyer proposed to her on Friday night and she said yes.
The 36-year-old Meyer was awarded with the highest recognition for valor in 2011 after he saved 36 of his fellow soldiers in when they were ambushed at Afghanistan in 2009, according to Reuters.
A team of U.S. and Afghan troops travelled to the Ganjgal Valley on Sept. 8, 2009 for a supposed routine meeting with the village elders. However, over 50 insurgents suddenly attacked from high ground with machine guns, mortars and rockets. Meyer was ordered to not enter the village, but he entered anyway to rescue his comrades after hearing radio messages between the Afghan troops and his fellow marines, according to Express News.
Palin, 26, said that she met Meyer when he went to the taping of reality TV show "Amazing America" in Alaska with her mother.
Meyer, who was also a sniper, posted on his Facebook account that he cannot wait to spend the rest of his life with Palin and her son Tripp, whose father was a former high school boyfriend of Palin.
Meanwhile, the couples' family expressed their delight on the engagement of the two. Dwight Meyer, the 84-year-old grandfather of Dakota Meyer, said that he is happy with the couple's decision.
Sarah Palin also posted a photo of the newly engaged couple with a caption that read "Congrats Bristol & Dakota! Engaged March 13, 2015" on her Facebook timeline.
