The official release date for "Outlander" Season 3 has been announced, which means fans will not have to wait much longer for Droughtlander to be over. Starz confirmed that the time-travelling series will return to broadcast this September.
Production for "Outlander" Season 3 began in September 2016 and is expected to conclude in June. According to Variety, filming will move from Scotland to Cape Town, South Africa this March. The former sets used for Starz series "Black Sails" will be used to shoot "pivotal sea voyage scenes" for the last five episodes of the third season. Lead stars Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan will film on location in South Africa.
"Outlander" Season 3 is based on Diana Gabaldon's book "Voyager." As the name suggest, the series will take the characters to different places. It is also rumored that pirates will be introduced in the upcoming season of the show, which makes for an exciting concept since the existence of pirates have not been explored on the show.
The gap between "Outlander" seasons 1 and 2 last for about 14 months, and the wait for the third season may take a little longer, but Starz president of programming Carmi Zlotnik assures fans that it will all be worth it.
"While 'Droughtlander' will last just a little longer, we feel it is important to allow the production the time and number of episodes needed to tell the story of the Voyager book in its entirety," IGN quotes Zlotnik. "The scale of this book is immense, and we owe the fans the very best show. Returning in September will make that possible."
"Outlander" Season 3 picks up after Claire travels through the stones back to her life in 1948 where she is reunited with her husband Frank. Claire and Frank have a lot of readjusting to do following her strange disappearance and sudden disappearance, this time carrying a child in her womb.
