Taiwanese tech giant may be launching a follow-up VR set soon but says that it will be nothing like its predecessor. Sources also claim that the new VR set will not only sport high-quality display but will also be completely mobile.
Even though no official announcement has been made by HTC, rumor has it that HTC Vive 2 release date is pegged for MWC 2017, which is scheduled to start in a few days in Barcelona.
Despite rumors, it is also possible that HTC Vive 2 release does not happen at MWC 2017. If previous launch cycles are any indication, HTC gives an annual update to its smartphones and for its Vive lineup, the company introduces a follow up after every 5-6 years, just like they do with their consoles.
While the company has said nothing about HTC Vive 2 release date, HTC global sales president Chia-lin Chang suggested in an interview with CNET that they are working on a new VR device. He explained that the current Vive is high-end but for its forthcoming product, the company has bigger and better plans. "It's not a phone slapped into a headset," Chang claimed.
Meanwhile, HTC Vive 2 is said to sport some very interesting features, that will likely reinstate its position in the market as one of the best VR gears. The upcoming device is said to pair and work perfectly with the company's flagship phone, HTC U Ultra.
The most significant upgrades expected in HTC Vive 2 is a 4K display. There is also speculation that the latest device will come equipped with a wireless transmitter that will allow the users to move around freely without being tethered to a PC, Tech Radar reported.
For now, the company is yet to announce HTC Vive 2 release date or even the device for that matter. The tech enthusiasts should take this update with a grain of salt.
