The Chinese Consulate in Karachi and Sindh University Jamshoro have agreed to establish a China-Pakistan Economic Corridor Research Center at the area study center of Sindh University. This research center is aimed to develop research activities on the campus as well as to strengthen the relationship and cultural ties between Pakistan and China.
Dr. Fateh Muhammad Burfat, the Vice Chancellor of Sindh University, highlighted the importance of establishing a Confucius Center at the university in a bid to teach the Chinese language, as well as to promote Chinese culture among Pakistani students on campus.
Burfat, together with the Chinese consul-general in Karachi Wang Yu and a two-member delegation, visited the center. The consul-general expressed his pleasure over the establishment of a Chinese corner therein.
The director of the Area Study Center briefed the guests during the meeting about the research activities of the center. While talking to the consul-general and media representatives, Burfat said that he will soon introduce the Chinese language as an optional subject in all the departments of the varsity.
He believes that a Chinese library must be set up at the center in order to facilitate the students as well as the scholars with Chinese books. Besides this, he also proposed a CPEC research center to bring prosperity in both countries.
"We want to learn from Chinese experience of development and progress; therefore, we wish to develop more and more academic links and exchange programs so that we may send our faculty and students to China under such programs," Burfat said.
The consul-general asserted that both China and Pakistan share plenty of cultural similarities. He added that China already initiated various cultural exchange programs with Pakistan.
Yu said: "Through these exchange programs, we invite artists, Sindhi musicians, singers and other celebrities from Sindh, Pakistan to China and we encourage Chinese artists to visit Pakistan especially to Sindh province with a view to strengthen our already established cultural ties."
