Many hip hop artists believe that Academy Award winner Eminem is one of the greatest rappers of all time. Melvin Glover, 55, who is professionally known as Melle Mel, is not one of them.
Mel was recently "First Family of Hip Hop" Season 1 episode 5. He was asked by another rapper on the Bravo reality show about Jay Z and Eminem.
"First Family of Hip Hop" follows the life of the family of Sylvia Robinson. The late singer and record label executive is said to be one of the inspirations for the "Empire" character Cookie Lyon, played by Taraji P. Henson, who wore an Alberta Ferretti dress at the Academy Awards 2017, Los Angeles Times reported.
Both Robinson and Mel are from New York. The former is known as one of the pioneers of rap.
After criticizing Beyoncé's husband, Mel mentioned words that Eminem's fans will surely not appreciate. In 2001, Jay Z released a song titled "Renegade" featuring the "Rap God" rapper.
"I could beat Eminem," Mel said. He added that defeating the "Rap God" rapper in a rap battle is the "easiest thing" he would ever do.
When asked to name one good rapper, Mel simply mentioned himself. Like Mel, some critics do not like Eminem, particular his verse in Big Sean's new song titled "No Favors."
In an interview with Gigwise, Sean defended Eminem and his "No Favors" verse. The former said he only recruits for features when he feel like they are really going to either add to the song or do something that he is not.
"That's exactly what Eminem did," Sean said. "I mean Eminem is Eminem, man. I feel like he brought a crazy verse to that song."
