Kendrick Lamar has released his latest album "To Pimp A Butterfly" one week ahead of the official release date, March 23.
The release was devoid of any pomp and show and in typical Drake-fashion, Lamar just tweeted the title of the album and the corresponding iTunes link to buy it. Earlier, musician Drake had adopted the same style to release his own album.
It is being speculated that Lamar was forced to push the album way ahead of the release date because he feared for it being leaked online. His track "King Kunta" was leaked on the net and he feared that other tracks might also follow suit. Hence he was left with no option but to release the album himself on the popular social networking and microblogging site Twitter, as per reports by Independent.
Time also reported that there was something brewing in the air between Interscope Records and Kendrick's To Dawg label. Anthony Tiffith, who is the Chief Executive Officer of Top Dawg label went on a Twitter rant, explicitly aimed at Interscope Records, who didn't return the favor. They refused to be drawn out in to a Twitter battle on the social media and instead showed their admiration for Lamar by just re-tweeting his tweet about the album's release.
Reviewers are divided over their initial responses to the album as all the sixteen tracks are introspective and show a side of Lamar, that the world hasn't seen before. Reviewers are still debating whether they like or despise his latest album.
