Since it has been a year ago when KBS 2TV and iQiyi aired “Descendants of the Sun” in South Korea and China, there has been no official word from the producers of the blockbuster drama about a sequel or movie version of the series.
Song Joong-ki Photo Triggers Speculations
However, a lot of rumors and speculations continue to arise, the latest of which is that “The Legend of the Blue Sea” actor Lee Min Ho and his girlfriend Suzy Bae will join the cast of “Descendants of the Sun 2.” The report came amid renewed interest in the drama after “Descendants of the Sun” actor Song Joong-ki posted on his Instagram account a photo from the drama showing him holding a toy gun.
IBT cited Lee Min Ho topping two international polls and being one of the favorite actors as well as winning an award at the 12th Annual Soompi Awards as reasons why the producers of “Descendants of the Sun 2” are allegedly including him in the cast of the popular drama. One of the international surveys, conducted by the Korea Creative Content Agency, polled almost 4,700 fans of Hallyu in the U.S.
Lee Min Ho Tops Survey
In that survey, reported by Straits Times, Lee Min Ho topped the actor category, while Shin Hye led the actress category. Korea Portal added that Lee Min Ho and Suzy Bae’s roles would be married couple, similar to previous speculations about Song Joong-ki and Song Hye Kyo who were the stars of “Descendants of the Sun.”
But the two reports acknowledged that Lee Min Ho has not confirmed he would be involved in doing the sequel. Neither the producers of “Descendants of the Sun” nor Blossom Entertainment has confirmed there would be a “Descendants of the Sun 2” or its cast already identified. However, if it were up to fans to decide, they would definitely happy to watch not only the original stars reprising their roles but also new actors joining the TV series.
