Hangzhou-Expedia partnership will launch a tourism campaign named “Silk Road Race Explore the Living Hangzhou." The tourism campaign organized by Hangzhou Tourism Commission in partnership with Expedia Media Solutions seeks to strengthen China-Europe ties by re-initiating the new Silk Road.
Travelers from Europe, particularly from England, France and Germany, would compete against each other to reach China and reveal rich heritages of Hangzhou, remembering the magnificence of the renaissance period.
The 5500-mile route, where a millennium of cultural exchanges was made, has connected China with the world. By depicting a virtual path linking the west to east, the "Silk Road Race, Explore the Living Hangzhou" drive recreates the Silk Road.
Participants from selected European countries may join by retweeting or making a tweet with the official hashtag #silkroadrace. Doing so will unlock the "See, Do, Eat, Stay" travel tips of Hangzhou.
Every tweet is equivalent to a step closer to Hangzhou. The country that first makes 5,500 interactions will go into a lucky draw. The prize will be a trip to the province, sponsored by China Southern Airlines and JW Marriott Hotel Hangzhou.
The G20 Summit 2016 held in Hangzhou has given the province’s tourism sector a boost. The event has brought developments as it highlighted the iconic historical and cultural heritage of Hangzhou to the international audience.
The development has listed the province as the 7th in Best Places to Travel in 2016 by Travel + Leisure magazine.
"Silk Road Race, Explore the Living Hangzhou" campaign gives travelers worldwide an opportunity to rediscover Hangzhou, China. For example, participants can revisit the 5000-year silk-making culture at the China National Silk Museum.
"The collaborated campaign redefines the historical significance of the Silk Road by presenting Hangzhou's natural beauty and heritage to the world," the Associate Director of Hangzhou Tourism Commission said.
Real-time updates will be provided by the campaign’s official website. The "Silk Road Race, Explore the Living Hangzhou" will also be advertised through different platforms to encourage countries to participate and compete. Travel booking services to the “Paradise of China” is also made available.
The Hangzhou-Expedia partnership hopes to boost China-Europe relations with the Silk Road Race tourism campaign.
