John Cena finally popped the question to longtime girlfriend Nikki Bella during the April 2 broadcast of WrestleMania 33 just after defeating The Miza and Marse in a tag team match.
Cena went for a traditional proposal - he got down on bended knees and presented Bella with a ring. The 39-year-old pro wrestler said he's been waiting "so long" to ask Bella to marry him, Fox News reported. She then said yes and kissed him.
Their engagement marks a huge milestone for the couple since they went public in 2012. Here's John Cena and Nikki Bella's dating timeline.
2012: They started dating
John Cena and Nikki Bella started dating in 2012. At the time, Cena had just broken up with his ex-wife. Bella, on the other hand, was just recently fired from the WWE. She was later brought back into the company, and became one of the main personalities WWE's Divas Division.
2013: They move in together
Just a year into their relationship, Cena and Bella made the decision to move in together. But before that could happen, Cena had her sign a 75-page document that indicates what she can and can't do while cohabitating with the WWE superstar.
"I had to have [Nikki] sign an agreement to live in the house. And that's-it wasn't a one-page, it's a 75-page agreement," Cena revealed in an episode of Total Divas, as quoted by Maxim. Although the contents of the document were never revealed, Cena explained that he didn't make the contract because of Bella, but because of how Cena's ex-wife, Elizabeth Huberdeau, had left him.
2014: Cena said he didn't want to marry again
In a 2014 broadcast of "Total Divas," the couple talked about Cena's first marriage, after which he revealed his lack of interest in marrying again and having kids. Of course, this has all change by now. In an interview with TODAY, Cena shared that he has found "the absolute right person."
2016: Bella is accused of using her relationship with Cena in WWE
In October 2016, Carmella accused Nikki Bella of using her relationship with John Cena to sort things out in the WWE ring. "You can get away with whatever the hell you want around here considering the fact that your boyfriend is John Cena," Carmella said.
This became a hot topic of debate especially after Bella became the longest-reigning Diva's champion. It was believed that Cena is one of the reason why Bella became a champion for such a long period.
