After the showing of the Spring Festival film “The Village of No Return” which is about a device that looks like a helmet that could erase the memory of the user, another memory-manipulation movie will show in China.
Loss of Emotion
The $20-million science fiction crime thriller “Battle of Memories” would debut in China on April 28. Directed by Leste Chen, the movie is set in 2025 when memory-manipulation is popular globally. Chen said the movie is not about a complete loss of memory but the loss of emotion about a particular part of memory.
The movie stars Duan Yihong, Huang Bo, Xu Jinglei and Yang Zishan. Chen previously directed another mind movie, “The Great Hypnotist” which is a mystery thriller, China Plus reported.
The film revolves around a famous novelist who recovers from a bitter divorce by having 10 years of his memory erased. He finds himself, however, in the mind of a serial killer when the divorced novelist attempts to recover his memories.
Shooting locations of the movie, produced by Tina Shi and Tom Waller from De Warenne Pictures, include Thailand, according to Screendaily. Wanda Pictures in Beijing launched in May sales of “Battle of Memories” and “For a Few Bullets” in Cannes.
Western Comedy Film
“For a Few Bullets” is a comedy western set in the 1930s. It is about a professional thief who partners with a special agent to protect a national treasure. Directed by Pan Anzi, the movie stars Lin Gengxin, Zhang Jingchu and Liu Xiaoqing. Pan Anzi was also the director of a period drama, “The Palace,” produced by Wanda Pictures, owned by the Chinese conglomerate Dalian Wanda Group which has been expanding its entertainment business by going Hollywood.
