“Dangal,” a Hindi movie, opened in Beijing on April 16 as one of the participants to the Beijing International Film Festival. Bollywood actor Aamir Khan graced the China premiere of the film.
When “Dangal” was shown in India, it earned over Rs 385 crore at the Indian box office. Aamir Khan’s other movie, “PK” broke records in the Asian giant when it earned more than S 100 crore when it was shown in over 4,000 cinemas in India, Mid-day reported. On the digital platform, the movie made another Rs 20 crore.
Female Indian Wrestlers
The producers of the movie are hoping the Bollywood movie, directed by Nitesh Tiware, would also perform well in the Chinese box office. The film is the story of Mahavir Phogat, an ex-wrestler in India who trained his two daughters, Babita Kumari and Geeta Phogat, to likewise become world-class wrestlers.
Aamir Khan will be in China until April 21. From Beijing, he will go to Shanghai and Sichuan Province’s capital city, Chengdu to promote the movie, according to Deccan Chronicle. The movie was shown in India on Dec. 23. Besides Aamir Khan, it stars Fatima Sana Sheikh, Sanya Malhotra, Zaira Wasim and Suhani Bhatnagar.
Pakistan Tries To Censor Film
The movie generated controversy in Pakistan when the country’s Censor Board asked that the scenes in “Dangal” showing the Indian flag and national anthem be removed. Because of the order, Aamir Khan, also the film’s producer, opted not to release “Dangal” in Pakistan.
Because of the producer-actor’s move, the Maharastra government passed a resolution on April 7 congratulating Aami Khan for refusing to bow down to Pakistan’s censor board’s order to remove the two emblems of India. Dhananjay Munde, leader of the Opposition, approved the resolution. The row characterizes the long years of conflict between the two Asian neighbors.
