An official statement released by the Kraft Foods Group on Mar. 17 stated that the company will be recalling more than 242,000 cases of its Macaroni & Cheese products. The recall order is in response to a report that the packets contains small fragments of metal that could endanger the life of anyone who ingested it.
When the news started circulating, Kraft's share prices fell on the stock market.
A report from Capital OTC said that boxes that were suspected to contain metal fragments are the 7.25-oz variants of the original flavor with best-before date from Sept. 18 to Oct. 11. The report added that the boxes contain a "C2" code located just under the best-before date. The boxes were reported to have been shipped to retail stores in the United States, Puerto Rico, some countries in South America and the Caribbean.
Kraft's decision to issue the recall order came after several complaints reached their office, fortunately no one was seriously injured. Kraft advised its customers that if their purchased product fell in between the best-before timeline provided they can return it to the store and ask for an exchange or they can have their money refunded.
Kraft has already released a public apology statement.
According to Business Insider, the following are the variants of Macaroni & Cheese that were reportedly affected by the recall; 7.25 oz. box Original flavor, 3-pack box of 7.25 oz. boxes Original flavor, 5-pack shrink-wrap of 7.25 oz. boxes Original flavor and 4-pack shrink-wrap of the 7.25 oz. Original flavor.
RBC Capital analyst David Palmer said that the amount of recalled goods amounts to around two percent of yearly volume of Kraft's Macaroni & Cheese product.
