Lance Bass and his husband, Michael Turchin, are officially dads! The 42-year-old former NSYNC member and his actor husband, 34, welcomed their first children together on Wednesday, Oct. 13, a set of boy-girl twins called Violet Betty and Alexander James. Lance shared the news on Instagram one day after the twins' births, including images of their birth certificates.
"The baby dragons have arrived!!" gushed the singer on his Instagram. Bass announced their arrival on Oct. 13, saying on his Instagram Story, "Here we go," complete with a photo of hospital beds for "Baby A" and "Baby B."
The couple, who married in 2014, revealed their pregnancy in June with a hilarious horror film spoof uploaded on TikTok, stating that the babies will arrive this fall. The video paid tribute to iconic horror films such as Poltergeist and, of course, The Shining.
The couple's happy addition to the family follows a painful surrogacy journey over the previous several years, which included a miscarriage, several IVF procedures, and nine donors. The continuing COVID-19 epidemic worsened the situation further. Lance and Michael's hope, on the other hand, remained unwavering throughout.
Lance told PEOPLE in May 2020 that he and Michael were not "giving up" on creating a family after their surrogate miscarried their baby son at eight weeks last March. "We learned how prevalent it is," he told the publication. "We're attempting to avoid being disheartened. The procedure has taken an inordinate amount of time." The couple reminisced on their experience in a separate interview with the press following the joyous news that they were expecting in June.
Preceding the long and grueling process they have faced through the last four years, Bass admitted that they were careful not to get too excited. The singer also discussed their choice to have twins, saying that Michael is one-half of a boy-girl twin, which influenced their decision to conceive a set. "He adored the experience," Lance explained to the interviewer. "I've always desired twins, but we're like, 'Well, that's ideal because now we can have one of mine and one of yours!'"
With the new addition to their little family, the couple can finally begin a new chapter in their love story with the birth of their newborn infants. They aim to set an example for other homosexual couples desiring children along the road.
