Beijing opened its Third Agriculture Carnival on March 14, Saturday, at Strawberry Expo Park in Changping, in the northern district of the capital.
The event aims to show the most modern practices in international food production as a result of cooperation between Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei Province.
The carnival, which will run until May 3, features two themed gardens, three pavilions, and a "picking belt" which all provide a mixture of agriculture and nature, urban and rural areas, culture and leisure, health and entertainment, and production and life, to create a unique perspective in the field of agriculture industry and research.
In the agricultural pavilion, fruits, vegetables and crops are arranged sophistically to create portraits of landscapes, using the agricultural products of different regions.
The carnival also featured themed areas that are exclusively dedicated to silkworms, bees, sunflowers and strawberries that offer visitors scientific knowledge as well as a chance to take part in interesting games. A wide range of domestic and foreign agricultural products are also sold at low and affordable prices.
A colorful parade, a 3D art festival, magic show and agriculture show to promote agricultural products were also held at the entertainment park.
Organizers said that the new feature of the carnival is the strawberry-picking "belt" which consists of open greenhouses in five nearby towns, allowing visitors to go out of the main site and observe farming.
This year's carnival is bigger than last year's as it presents more than 550 agricultural products and offers more interactive activities such as games, fishing and wine-making. Visitors can also sample delicious foods and snacks from Taiwan and join agricultural seminars and photo contests.
