Boko Haram militants were suspected to have attacked a few towns in Nigeria. They burned the people’s houses, shooting anyone who tried to run from them, while some allegedly cut off some people’s heads and used a chainsaw on the bodies, all amid the presidential elections.
“At least half the village has been burnt,” said Mohammed Adamu, the town’s representative.
At least 25 people were murdered and over 30 people were injured when the suspected Boko Haram gunmen attacked the village of Buratai in Borno, according to RT. Buratai is 200 kilometers or 125 miles from the capital of Borno, which is Maiduguri.
According to a nurse who was assigned at the nearest hospital, the 32 injured people whom she helped to treat were decapitated in their village. The actual culprits of the attack remain unclear, but Yahoo! News has reported that the recent attack was consistent with the past attacks that Boko Haram had done in the south of the state.
These attacks occurred after the Nigerian military troops made the announcement on Friday that they have already cleared the area and that militants were no longer present.
The election proceedings has to be extended one full day due to certain issues, said CNN. Apart from delayed deliveries of ballot papers and the malfunctioning of the digital voting cards, suspected Boko Haram militants have also attacked certain polling stations, killing at least 11 people. However, many polling stations had no problems to report and even started to count ballots in public, after the voting process ended on Saturday night.
