Actress Maika Monroe talks about her horror film, "It Follows." The film premiered at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival on May 17 last year and is currently the second highest domestic grosser of Radius-TWC productions.
Monroe shared her thoughts as the lead character, Jay, to Stripes.
According to the actress, the story was inspired by Director David Robert Mitchell's experience of having recurring nightmares when he was young. The actress added that in the director's dreams as a child, something followed him. The entity can also change forms into a relative or another person.
The actress also said that her goal was to act as real as possible in order to make horror movies realistic for the audience, as horror movies become "ridiculous" if they are not believable. During filming, the actress wore headphones, which helped her to concentrate and remain in focus.
"It's very draining. By the end of the day you're like, 'Oh, my gosh, I just cried everything out,'" she said.
The actress also voiced out her interest in making a sequel for the horror film as she would love to work with the director.
As per Forbes, "It Follows" is "pretty darn good." The horror movie got a $160,000 four-screen debut two weeks from now and made the second largest domestic gross under film distributor Radius-TWC with $4.7 million. This result led the distributor to hold a multiplex theatrical release for the film's success.
"It Follows" is an American supernatural horror film, which chronicles a young girl who is followed by an unspecified supernatural force after a sexual experience.
The film will star Monroe as Jay, Kei Gilchrist as Paul, Jake Weary as Hugh, Daniel Zovatto as Greg, Olivia Luccardi as Yara, and Lolo Sepe as Kelly.
Along with film helmer and writer Mitchell, Joshua Astrachan, Robyn Bennett, Mia Chang, Jennifer Dana, Frederick Green, Rebecca Green, David Kaplan, Corey Large, Alan Pao, Erik Rommesmo, and Laura Smith are the film's co-producers. Filming took place in Michigan. The film will be produced by Animal Kingdom, Northern Lights Films, and Two Films, along with Radius-TWC as distributor.
"It Follows" is slated for its theatrical premiere in the United States this weekend.
