Air Canada flight 624 flying from Toronto circled above the airport grounds for about 30 minutes and crashed as it touched down hitting an antenna array and skidded of the runway in Halifax Stanfield International Airport on Sunday.
The airbus flight 624 carries 133 passengers and five crew members' crash landed 335 meters short of runway at Halifax Stanfield International Airport authorities explained. Two fire trucks were at the scene within 90 seconds. Few passengers were hurt and the 23 passengers were reportedly rushed to the hospital for immediate treatment of their slight injuries, CBC News Canada reported.
Transportation Safety Board (TSB) investigators confirmed on Sunday that the main reason of the crash landing was aircraft accidentally hit a range of antenna on its way to the runway.
TSB investigator Michael Cunningham explained to Global News that the airplane's landing gear got broken as it hit an array of antenna which set it off to skid 1,100 feet after it hits the runway. The aircraft's engine and nose were disconnected and a wing was severely damaged as it landed badly.
The investigators have started the documentation of the crash site. The intricate investigation will involve a number of agencies including the Halifax International Airport officials, RCMP, Transport Canada, Nav Canada, and Air Canada, Cunningham disclosed.
TSB said that the crash was not too serious and passengers were considered lucky on this incident. Cunningham explained that they will put their best effort to find out what really happened. Investigators from France and Canada were called to help out.
