A new photo was presented during the Boston marathon bombing trial on March 30, Monday, showing Dzhokhar Tsarnaaev, one of the suspects, standing behind the family of eight-year-old Martin Richard, the youngest victim.
According to Boston, the photo revealed that Tsarnaaev was standing behind the tree just meters away from the family of Richard, one of those who were killed during the bombing. Jurors were shown photos of the boy when an autopsy was performed on him.
Due to this evidence presented, the government already rested its case and the defense team for the suspect is set to give its case soon. According to Boston Globe, the defense released a statement saying that they are already in the process of getting to the bottom of the situation.
Tsarnaaev is to be charged with death penalty but his defense team pointed out that although he did admit that he was part of the bombing, they noted that he played a lesser role as they appeal for his life to be spared. The defense team also shared that the older brother of Tsarnaaev was the one who planned the bombing but he was already killed four days after the bombing when he was confronted by police officials.
According to Dun Meng, the man carjacked by the Tsarnaaev brothers, it was the older brother who pointed a gun at him and told him he was responsible for the Boston marathon explosion. It is not yet clear if there are other witnesses to speak in defense of Tsarnaaev.
Eric M. Freedman, a law professor at Hofstra University School of Law, shared that the death penalty is supposed to be reserved for the worst of the worst and that the lawyers handling the case should be able to produce material evidence that is not related to the Boston marathon bombing.
