WWE diva AJ Lee has decided to take retirement from the ring. Lee whose real name is April Brooks is one of the star performers for WWE. The news was confirmed by WWE through Twitter, in the post they used her maiden name Mendez, according to The Washington Post.
Last summer Lee married WWE wrestler CM Punk, both have been very controversial figures in the world of professional wrestling. She had also secured her second victory at the Wrestlemania event, where she challenged the Bella twins in a tag team match and teamed up with Paige.
On Monday night "WWE RAW," Lee also appeared in a six person tag team match where she appeared victorious. Lee recently raised a lot of ripples when she criticised WWE executive Stephanie McMahon for the inequality between the women and men wrestlers in WWE. The reason for the criticism was wrestler Sting's four minute long video packed entry in the ring, whereas Paige received 30 second footage while making her entry into the ring and was made to stand around.
Lee's criticism also raised a lot of outrage amongst the fans when they expressed their displeasure through Twitter with a hash tag tweet #GiveDivasAChance. Lee also stated that the female wrestlers have a lot of merchandise sale and also star in the highest rated segments of the show, but they receive lesser wages and screen time in comparison to the male wrestlers, according to SB Nation.
The reason for Lee's sudden departure could be her husband CM Punk's departure that took place in 2014. The other reason could Lee is looking for a future which is beyond WWE as her recent tweet gives ample evidence, regarding her book deal with publisher Lisa Leshne.
With the departure of the diva, it is yet another loss of a star performer and entertainer for WWE.
