An official hardware upgrade has been rolled out for the existing Roku 2 and Roku 3 devices. While the company has been strongly focusing on its voice control features, the enhanced search functionality is something users would come to appreciate once they use it.
The previously launched Roku 2 has now received a hardware upgrade. The developers have increased the specifications of the device so that it can handle HD content with ease, allow users to easily browse through multiple channels without lags and enjoy stuff with better stability.
A software update has also been rolled out for the devices to support the new voice control feature which is exclusively available on the Roku 3 device. The concept is similar to Microsoft's Xbox One console which allows players to pause a game, switch on the device or open an app, all by speaking into the microphone.
The new remote control for Roku 3 comes with a microphone to give voice commands on the fly. It is not going to significantly change the user experience but is considered as a worthy add-on, reports Tech Hive.
While the upgrade is promising, it is the changes in the software that allows better search functionality that matters the most. It now makes it easier for users to bookmark their favorite movie as soon as it gets released. Roku will automatically notify them once it becomes available for viewing on any channel. Besides, there is also an option to search content based on actors, directors or other roles that offers a comprehensive selection, confirms Engadget.
After refreshing their older devices, it is also expected that the company will launch an all new Roku 4 device in the coming months.
