Rick Porcello signed recently a four-year-contract extension with the Boston Red Sox on Monday but has not appeared in any game as of yet.
The contract will be worth around $82.5 million will start on 2016. Porcello will also be receiving a $500,000 sign-in bonus and a $20 million annual salary on 2016 and 2017 while he will get $21 million on 2018 and 2019, according to Boston Globe.
The contract permits the Red Sox to have Porcello in the team from age 26 until 30. The team will be allowing him to reach the open market at a young age if he deemed choose to.
It shows that the right-hand pitcher has a good opportunity ahead of him being a free agent since only a few pitchers like him have ever reached the open market with a good track record like he does.
During his prime years, he will be staying with the Red Sox for good. The Red Sox management admits that they do want someone like Porcello to be in their team through the upcoming seasons.
"Aside from the pitcher that he is, which obviously we really like, getting to know Rick more over the course of the winter and spring, he has a lot of qualities we really admire," Ben Cherington, Red Sox general manager explained, NESN reported.
According to Porcello, the Red Sox has provided everything that he wanted in a long-term team. The most vital thing that he believes in his mind is that he really wanted to play with the Red Sox ever since spring training.
The right-hand pitcher finds himself extremely happy to be playing for the Red Sox for another four years.
