While it is still about 260 days before Christmas day, singer-songwriter Mariah Carey is said to star in a Christmas movie. The artist will be joining forces with her friend Brett Ratner, a producer, on the said holiday film.
Recently, New Line Cinema has purchased an untitled Christmas pitch from RatPac Entertainment, according to Deadline. The plot is still unknown, but centers on the power of music to one's "truest and most authentic feelings." For Carey, she views the Christmas Season as "special," in line with her composition "All I Want for Christmas Is You." The 1994 song has retailed over and above 14 million copies all over the world, making the largest holiday always in people's minds.
Ratner stated his thoughts in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. He said that the film's theme is about the possibility of music transporting people back in time. He also added that the fans can assume everything with a Christmas movie with the singer. The soundtrack will also showcase lots of high note songs from Carey. Furthermore, songs from other artists will also be included in addition to the songs by the diva.
In her continuing career, Carey has released wholesaled more than 200 million records. Aside from "All I Want for Christmas" (Merry Christmas, 1994), the artist is very well-known for her singles such as "Always Be My Baby" (Daydream, 1995), "Dreamlover" (Music Box, 1993), and "Vision of Love" (Mariah Carey, 1990).
Aside from singing, Carey has also showcased her talent in acting, in her roles in various works including "Stay in the Middle" (2009), "Lee Daniel's The Butler" (2013), and television series "Real Husbands of Hollywood" (2014).
Aside from Ratner, the Christmas film will be produced by Jonathan Shestack, James Packer, and John Cheng, with New Line Cinema and RatPac Entertainment in charge of production. Toby Emmeruch and Walter Hamada will watch over for New Line Cinema. In addition, "The Family Man" scribes David Diamond and David Weismann were approached to pen the film's screenplay.
As the film is in its early phase of development, fans have to wait for further details on Carey's co-actors, the story plot details, and release time frame.
