The Chinese adaptation of Hollywood's comedy romance film "Bride Wars" will premiere in Chinese cinemas on Qixi Festival on Aug. 20.
"Bride Wars" is a 2009 film with a story that revolves around two best friends who became rivals and sabotaged each other when their wedding was booked on the same day at the same place.
Played by Anne Hathaway as Emma and Kate Hudson as Liv on the American counterpart, the Asian "Bride Wars" will be billed by Hong Kong-based actress Angelababy and mainland actress Ni Ni.
Tony Chan, director of the comedy films "Hot Summer Days" in 2010, "Love in Space" in 2011, and the award-winning "Combination Platters," will direct the movie; while Fox International and Bona will produce the remake.
Angelababy will play Anne's role, while Ni Ni will portray Kate's character.
"I play a gentle dance instructor. Ni's role (an online store owner) is a bit tough and aggressive. We grow up as best friends since childhood," Angelababy told China Daily at a media event in Beijing on April 1.
"My role hardly refuses her best friend's requests, but for the first time she says 'no' as her wedding is a lifetime priority. I suppose every bride-to-be thinks and acts in similar ways," added Angelababy.
In the mainland, Bona will be responsible for the film's distribution, while Fox International will release it worldwide.
“‘Bride Wars’ is the first of several co-productions between Bona and Fox to commence principal photography. This is a defining project from our relationship. It will hold special appeal to the vast Chinese audience,” Yu Dong, Bona’s chairman and CEO, told Variety.
The movie's release and theme is exactly suitable for the Qixi Festival or the Chinese Valentines Day.
