While the upcoming "Power Rangers" film is known to be in its ongoing development, it is now eyeing on "Project Alamanac's" Dean Israelite as its director.
Film helmer Israelite is now in talks as the pilot of the forthcoming superhero film "Power Rangers," as per The Wrap. He is known for crafting the science fiction film "Project Almanac," which centers on a group of teenagers discovering the secrets of a time machine. The youngsters realized that things start to get out of control after building one. After its release last Jan. 30, the film has made an estimated worldwide gross of $32 million from the production budget of $12 million.
Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz are set to pen the script for the film, having created the scripts for Marvel's "Thor" and "X-Men: First Class" in the previous years. "Star Trek" and "Transformers" scribe Roberto Orci will assist in the story map.
As per Cinema Blend, Israelite was also attached last year to work on the forthcoming reboot of John Badman's 1983 science fiction film "WarGames," which starred Matthew Broderick, John Wood, Ally Sheedy, and Dabney Coleman.
Written by Lawrence Lasker and Walter Parkes, the film centered on a young hacker who accidentally accessed a United States military supercomputer designed to predict outcomes of nuclear war. Initially believing it was a computer games, the program nearly started a World War III.
Meanwhile, "Power Rangers" is a superhero franchise centering on a team of teenagers who can transform or "morph" into superheroes donning color coded suits. They can also summon cyborg beasts, which can unify into a large robot. As superheroes, they are destined to fight forces of evil and save the world.
The franchise has launched two live-action movies - Bryan Spicer's "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie" (1995) and the other is Shuki Levy and David Winning's "Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie" (1997).
While the upcoming film has chosen its possible director, there is no official announcement yet on the exact plot details and the cast. Fans will have to wait for further updates.
