Apple has bought an Israeli company named LinX that excels in camera technology. It is possible that Apple might improve the camera of iPhone 7 using this technology as well as of Mac and iPad.
According to CNBC Now, Apple purchased LinX for around $20 million. The company LinX manufactures cameras with in depth-sensing technology. This technology is capable of creating 3D image maps. LinX specializes in small multi-aperture cameras exclusively for mobile devices.
The Israeli company also makes the cameras for ultrabooks and tables, according to Business Insider.
The publication speculated that it is possible that this technology could be used to improve the quality of iPad and Mac cameras.
According to the website of LinX, their cameras are "significantly smaller than any camera on the market today, leading the way to DSLR performance in slim handsets."
The company claims that their high-end multi-aperture technology clubs with "advanced sensor and optics technology," and state-of-the-art photo processing to set new benchmarks for parameters like HDR, shutter lag, colour fidelity, refocusing, and performance in low light and other.
Moreover, the cameras made by LinX provide a detailed information about the entire scene which is different from just capturing a 2D image. The products allow Apps to use the 3D information stored by the camera and to get new features like refocusing an image after the capture. It also supports 3D object modelling.
Apple has not yet commented on how the company is going to use the technology that LinX excels in.
