The father of Barway Collins, a ten-year-old boy found dead over the weekend at the Mississippi river, was charged with second degree murder.
The father of Barway, Pierre Collins, had a lot of debt and had no income so there was no way he could pay off his loans. A police report obtained by People revealed that the possible angle as to why Pierre killed his child is because of the life insurance policies.
Barway went missing on March 18 after he was dropped off by the school van. He was supposed to go inside the apartment where he lives but told the driver of the van that his father and his uncle called him nearby. The boy was found with a duct tape holding his feet together and there was also tape around his torso.
In the report, it was stated that Pierre used his cell phone near where the body of the boy was found. It was revealed that Pierre never visited that part of the country for the past 30 days so it was odd for him to be there at that time his son disappeared.
Barway has had a life insurance under his name with an amount of $30,000 and his father called the insurance company days after he went missing saying that he wishes to raise the coverage from $30,000 to $50,000. He also deposited payment to the insurance policy under Barway's name after two days of him missing. Another insurance policy covered Barway for an amount of $100,000.
Police officials then arrested Pierre on Monday and is being held in jail with a $2 million bail. Pierre continues to deny the allegations that he is behind the death of his son.
In a report by Star Tribune, Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman told the publication that they believe Pierre took Barway to the river and dumped him there. He was in the river for more than 20 days. Although it is clear that the body has been underwater for quite a time, authorities still have not confirmed what was the cause of death of Barway.
