How can you top the top Apple Watch? While several celebrities have been spotted with a gold Apple Watch Edition before the gadget's launch, fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld has received a very special gift. It is a $25,000 custom Apple Watch with a gold Link Bracelet.
Sebastian Jondeau, Lagerfeld's assistant, posted an Instagram image of the unique Apple Watch with the gold bracelet, according to Mac Rumors. Jondeau says that Apple "specially made" the watch.
In the image of the custom Apple Watch, the timepiece did not seem to have been activated. However, it stresses the main function of the watch as a symbol of social status.
Lagerfeld is a famous fashion designer who is the head of both Fendi and Chanel. As a fashion and style icon he could be a valuable asset for the marketing of the Apple Watch.
The Silver and Space Black models of Apple Watch contain a Link Bracelet, but the Apple Watch Edition does not. Reportedly it is due to the price and gobs of gold required. However, in theory such a model could exist in the future.
Upgrading the Sport band on the Apple Watch Edition to the Modern Buckle band boosts the leather band's price from $10,000 to $17,000. Another upgrade to a Link Bracelet would up the retail price to about $25,000, according to Quartz.
It is possible that other custom designs like Lagerfeld's watch could be spotted on other fashion designers' and celebrities' wrists. The "free" advertising for Apple would be worth its weight in gold--literally.
