In its hope of increasing marketability of the ELR hybrid, luxury carmaker Cadillac decided to cut down its price and add some performance upgrade.
According to USA Today, the 2016 model of the Cadillac ELR will be available for $65,595 including shipping costs. This is a significant price drop from the car's original $75,995 price tag. Many industry analysts said that the price will drop even further due the advertised $7,500 tax credit which will put the car's retail price at $58,495.
To raise the bar even higher, Cadillac promised that the new model will be include significant engine upgrades. According to Autoblog, a software update will raise the ELR's power output by 25 percent. This upgrade is said to increase the cars acceleration power and experts estimate a 0-60mph record of 6.4 seconds.
The performance upgrade will also improve the car's top speed to 106mph and can reach up to 130mph if installed with a Perfomance Package. For mileage upgrade, the car can now travel 39 miles using its electric motor alone and can reach 330 miles with the use of the generator.
Aside from the battery, the ELR also has a gas engine. Once the battery runs out, the car automatically shifts to the gas engine. This feature is currently unavailable in most all-electric car currently offered in the market, especially the ones manufactured by Tesla.
On the visual side, the 2016 ELR will have a redesigned grille and Cadillac crest.
Cadillac president Johan de Nysschen said in a statement, "The upgraded ELR offers enhanced driving performance for buyers seeking unpromising luxury and exquisite craftsmanship with electrification technology."
