Tony Goldwyn who currently stars in "Scandal", revealed how he lost his mother to lung cancer more than two decades ago. He said about how the doctors literally threw up their hands and said that nothing can be done to save her; a thought which still haunts him.
This is the reason why the 54-year-old actor is going to lend his voice to the latest campaigns by Stand Up To Cancer community along with Bristol Myers-Squibb, The Daily Beast stated. This community helps to promote the importance of encouraging all the lung cancer patients and also their friends and families and keep them well informed about all the special trials, therapies and medical breakthroughs which are available for them, according to Scoop Nest.
This is a very personal and close cause for the actor and he is taking all the professional push which is required to speak about it and educate everyone about it.
He also expressed his disbelief in the fact that the actors who work in Shonda Rhimes' shows do not take out time to voice out on important issues like lung cancer. They have the right platform and the right knowledge, they must come up with blogs and communities to spread awareness about the disease, he says.
He further said that if he is given the right platform and the right voice, he will work tirelessly towards this cause and make sure that he will give in his best shot.
His mother, Jennifer Coleman, was 68 years old when she was diagnosed with the disease and, unfortunately, no cure was not available 22 years ago.
